Hello and welcome back to term 5! This term is a crucial part of children’s school life as we are getting ever closer to SATs week, commencing the 13th May 2013. Children have had a long break and need to maintain a positive attitude to learning and excellent learning behaviours. Homework is set on a Thursday and is due the following week on Wednesday. Children need to be completing homework, practising spellings and need to read with an adult at least three times a week.
SATs start the week beginning 13th May 2013 with the examination and dates as follows;
- 13th May English reading test
- 14th May English grammar, punctuation and spellings test
- 15th May Mental mathematics test
- 15th May Mathematics test A
- 16th May Mathematics test B
It is important that we work together to support the children in the best way possible so that they reach their full potential. Children should be attending every day of school as attendance is essential for children to make progress and receive coverage of subjects. Children should not be taking any time off during the SATs week as they will miss examinations. We will provide a special SATs breakfast for ALL children during this week so children must be punctual and in school by 8.15 am. They also need to get plenty of sleep and should be going to bed no later than 9.00pm.
As this is the first year children will be sitting a grammar, punctuation and spellings test, please have a look at the parental guidance on the DFE website;
As we are also required to have a writing portfolio as part of the children's assessment, children will be producing a piece of independent writing on Monday and Tuesday afternoon. So children need to be present to ensure they have a range of writing as evidence for their levels.
